wiring up ignition systems

The first ignition system i had to wire up was a system using afunction generator to trigger the module,it also had a coil and spark plug in the circuit so sparkplug can fire.i build the circuit like it was described to do

The thing i found hardest about this one was wiring up the igniter because it has 5 pins and i had to sort out where the go.After doin sum research on google i found the specifications and i found that only four pins are used because the 5th pin is only a misfire detection that i dont need the pins i did use was triger, coil, power and earth. In the picture above the red wire goes to the power, the black wire goes to the earth, the yellow one goes to the coil and the green one goes to triger. it has a function generator to triger the module. After setting it up and turned it on and it was working like it should.

The second system i wired up was  a system using a distributor to trigger the module. It has a coil and spark plug in the circuit so spark plug can fire.

in this system I stil used a igniter but i wired in a distributer to triger it instead of using a function generator as shown on the first circuit. The igniter pack is wired up the same as in the first circuit but  wiv the distrubetor in the place of the function generator. After i wired it up i turned the distributor and it sparked at the sparkplug wich meens it works as it should and the exersice was a succes.i used a 12v power supply to make the circuit work

The third circuit I had to build was a system with a wasted spark ignition system using the function generator to triger the module

In this circuit I stil used the igniter but with using a wasted spark setup instead of a coil set up the igniter is stil wired up the same way but with the wires that go to the coil is now goin to the wasted spark with two sparkplugs wired up.I stil used the function generator aswel. The wasted spark has 4 plugs to wire up
1-bat+ 2-bat- 3-triger 4-triger
the reason it has two triger is because it has one for each coil so I only had to wire up one of the two.
after I wired this circuit up and had the tutor check it i turned it on and it was working perfectly as it should didnt hav to change anything

The 4ht circuit I had to wire up was a coil over ignition system. This system uses a function generator to trigger the modue it also had a coil and sparkplug so sparkplug can fire.

In this circuit I did not use the igniter anymore. The reason for this is because it has its own built in igniter so dose not need one to work.

  1. Hi JJ, glad to see you are getting all your experiments up on the blog. Remember, the more understanding you demonstrate, the higher marks I can give you. Try to explain what principle is shown by the experiment, what does it mean? Why? This is more important than I did this, then I did that...
    Cheers
